Leo Junior/Senior High School Reviews

After being relocated by my company to the Ft Wayne area, we chose Leo due to its smaller size and good reputation locally. We made a mistake. The Leo area is comprised of many, many multi-generation families, and is not very welcoming of outsiders. The high school is adept at positioning itelf for external awards (5-star and so forth), but it just wall dressing. The teachers by and large do not come across as particularly dedicated (read: typical government employees). The Jr high was more concerned with funding for techical gadgets in the classroom than providing a solid education. For high-schoolers, if you are not a jock, beautiful, or an academic over-achiever, you will be ignored. I feel guilty about our kids continuing to attend there. I'm looking at the possibility of a local private school. Sigh.

I am a former student and now a parent of children in the Leo school system. I am pleased at the academic level that these kids are receiving compared to other school systems and I am proud to send my kids to Leo!

I'm a senior at Leo and throughout my four years I've been consistently disappointed. They offer very few electives, and the opportunities available to students are nothing compared to larger schools in the area. The school is more concerned with their appearance than the quality of education. There are a few truly dedicated teachers, but it feels like that number is declining. Unfortunately, Leo is such a sheltered community that many don't see a problem with what is going on.

There are a handful of wonderful teachers at Leo but there is alot of teachers who are there for a paycheck and thats it. In my time with Leo i feel a student does not get the education they deserve especially if they want to specialize in a course or if they need some extra help. Leo is all about sports and forgets that they are there to give students an education.

Leo has wonderful academic challenges, but almost no school spirit or related activites. The high school experience is next to nothing. The school seems so worried about exallence that they forget that they are working with teenagers and not employees.

I have 2 daughters currently at Leo High School and have been generally pleased with their education and extracurricular activities. There are a few teachers that I feel have room for improvement, but that is the case at any school. The students pick their own classes and teachers at scheduling, therefore they can avoid those particular teachers.
