DixieBradley's Bio

I have been involved in the visual arts for over 30 years, beginning as a photographer and exploring other visual arts as I go along.   I have participated in numerous group shows locally, regionally and nationally, and have won awards.  I have also had several solo exhibits.

My photographs for exhibit are primarily cibachrome photograms, which are done entirely in the darkroom without camera or film.  For that reason, I call them "light paintings".  Even though these have always been well-received, they have not sold and I decided to branch out into other media.  I began painting in oils and find this a sensual and rewarding experience.  More recently, I began exploring mixed media collage.  Like all artists, I have a stack of compositions that did not succeed on their own, but being of a fiscally conservative nature, I could not bring myself to throw them away.  Since artists are the original recyclers, I felt that these pieces deserved another chance and began combining them to make new compositions.

I feel that working in more than one medium helps prevent "artist's block" and each technique contributes to my overall growth as an artist.  This is helpful, since I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up and want to explore everything before I do.
